New York, NY (January 7, 2015) Producers Rosie O’Donnell, Robert Dragotta, and Culture Project have announced today that MotherStruck!, the critically acclaimed new play written and performed by Staceyann Chin and directed by Cynthia Nixon, will host an intimate ‘In Conversation’ series following specified performances throughout the month of January. MotherStruck! is set to play at Culture Project’s Lynn Redgrave Theater (45 Bleecker Street) through Friday, January 29, 2015.

 

  • SATURDAY, JANUAY 9 – “Mother and Daughter”

The series will kick-off this Saturday, January 9th after the 4PM performance with writer and performer Staceyann Chin, and her daughter Zuri. Staceyann and Zuri will discuss their popular Living Room Protests on YouTube and what life has been like now that Staceyann’s dream has become a reality. The two of them will also take audience members through a typical ‘day in the life’ of this dynamic duo. 

 

  • WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 13 – “The Women of MotherStruck!

A conversation with writer and performer Staceyann Chin, director Cynthia Nixon and producer Rosie O’Donnell following the 7:30PM performance on Wednesday, January 13. The three women will discuss their collaboration on the project, with a focus on the themes of motherhood presented in the play.

 

  • FRIDAY, JANUARY 15 – “Planned Parenthood”

Joining writer and performer Staceyann Chin and producer Rosie O’Donnell, other participants for this special talkback will include Alexis McGill Johnson, the board chair of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, and Adjoa Tetteh, who represents Planned Parenthood here in New York City.

MotherStruck! sets forth Staceyann Chin’s personal journey to motherhood as a single woman, lesbian and activist who does not have health insurance or a “serious, stable financial set up,” but wants to have a child. Told through Chin’s uniquely personal and poetic lens, this solo show explores how the process changed her life and how she makes peace with what she learns from this profound experience.

 

MotherStruck! plays the following performance schedule: Tuesday through Thursday at 7:30PM, Friday at 8:00PM, Saturday at 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM, and Sunday at 5:00PM.
