New York, NY (September 9, 2013) – The producers of Peter and the Starcatcher announced today that the production has launched a special Instagram video contest to help celebrate the 11th Annual International Talk Like A Pirate Day on Thursday, September 19. The contest invites fans of the Tony Award-winning play to do their best Pirate impressions (Blake Stache or other pirate voices accepted!), and explain why they think tickets to Peter and the Starcatcher are the ultimate treasure.

Ever since Dave Barry, the co-author (with Ridley Pearson) of the novel Peter and the Starcatchers (on which the play is based), mentioned “International Talk Like a Pirate Day” in his nationally syndicated newspaper column in 2002, what once was a goofy idea celebrated by a handful of friends has turned into an international phenomenon that shows no sign of letting up. Last year, Peter and the Starcatcher celebrated by giving away 100 tickets to fans sporting mustaches like the show’s own Pirate, Black Stache.

To see this contest’s inaugural video by Dave Barry himself, please click here and continue to check back on BroadwayWorld.com for new videos. Fans can vote by ‘liking’ the videos on Instagram.

Rules and Regulations: Over the next 10 days, fans can submit Instagram videos that tell us why they want to see Peter and the Starcatcher in their best pirate lingo. In order to be collected, the videos must use both the hashtag #itlapd and tag the show’s official Instagram account, @starcatcherbway. Fans and friends can vote for their favorites by ‘liking’ them on Instagram.

Submissions will be accepted through 11:59 PM on Wednesday, September 18, and the three videos with the most number of ‘Likes’ will be announced on Thursday, September 19. The winners will each receive a pair of tickets to Peter and the Starcatcher at New World Stages, or for those not in the New York area, a pair of tickets to the tour market closest to them. Written by Tony® Award nominee Rick Elice and directed by Tony® Award-winner Roger Rees and Tony® Award-nominee Alex Timbers, Peter and the Starcatcher officially began performances at New World Stages (340 West 50th St.) on Monday, March 18, 2013, after ending a triumphant run on Broadway at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre on Sunday, January 20, 2013. Tickets are now on sale through January 5, 2014.

This imaginative prequel to the story of Peter Pan, based on The New York Times best selling Disney-Hyperion novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, tells the tale of an orphan who heads to a faraway land, where he finds love, friendship, and, ultimately, himself. Peter and the Starcatcher is comprised of a company of twelve actors playing more than a hundred unforgettable characters, all on a journey to answer the century-old question: How did Peter Pan become The Boy Who Never Grew Up?  This epic origin story of one of popular culture’s most enduring and beloved characters proves that an audience’s imagination can be the most captivating place in the world.

The cast of Peter and the Starcatcher includes Rick Holmes (Black Stache), Nicole Lowrance (Molly), Jason Ralph (Boy), Edward Baker-Duly (Lord Aster), Matt D’Amico (Slank), Kevin Del Aguila (Smee), Jimmy Keiffer (Alf), Josh Grisetti (Fighting Prawn), Alex Hernandez (Captain Scott), Nate Miller (Ted), Andrew Mueller (Prentiss), Jon Patrick Walker (Mrs. Bumbrake), Jordan Geiger, Joanna Howard, José Restrepo, and Graham Stevens.

The design team of Peter and the Starcatcher includes Donyale Werle (Scenic Design), Paloma Young (Costume Design), Jeff Croiter (Lighting Design), Darron L West (Sound Design), who all won Tony Awards for their work on the show, along with Steven Hoggett (Movement), Wayne Barker (Music), Jacob Grigolia-Rosenbaum (Fight Direction), Marco Paguia (Music Supervision), and Greg Anthony (Music Direction).

Peter and the Starcatcher won five 2012 Tony Awards (the most of any play of the 2011-2012 season) and was named one of New York Times, New York Magazine and New Yorker’s Top 10 Shows of the Year.

The performance schedule for Peter and the Starcatcher is as follows: Monday at 7:00 PM, Wednesday at 2:00 & 7:00 PM, Thursday – Friday at 8:00 PM, Saturday at 2:00 & 8:00 PM, Sunday at 3:00 PM.

Tickets ($72.50 – $99.00) are available via Telecharge.com or in person at New World Stages (340 West 50th St) box office. For more information on group offers (10 or more people), call 877-321-0020 or email petergroups@321mgt.com.
