Isabel Toledo
The extraordinary thing about Isabel Toledo is that – while she is, of course, a designer – her influence extends far beyond the world of fashion. Born in Cuba, she moved to the United States as a teen and immediately began making her mark on American culture. On Inauguration Day 2009, her art became known to the world when Michelle Obama stepped out in a Toledo original – that famous lemongrass dress with matching coat. Now designing costumes for Best Musical Tony® Nominee After Midnight, her dazzling work is permeating the Great White Way. To add to the achievements, Isabel has recently been nominated for a Tony® Award for Best Costume Design. She is unstoppable, and we can't believe we got her to take a few minutes On the Couch!

If you could give up one of your vices, what would it be?
Not to have any.
What is the one professional accomplishment you long for most?
I have not had the privilege of being a professional. I accomplish my work via inspiration, obsession, and love which I can't claim as a profession.
What is the one thing you waste too much money on?
Waste not has always been my credit card. I buy with purpose and repurpose what I buy.
What is the one activity you waste too much time doing?
Once again…no luxury of time to waste around here…no kidding…do all and mean it. It is all useful.
What do you consider to be the single greatest threat to your health?
No time to waste.

Honesty.

Nature, Ruben, Peace.

Honesty, sensitivity. Love my husband's face…

Cats who love dogs, vise versa.

Easy….no more war.
