New York, NY (October 28, 2022) – Today Concord Theatricals / Craft Recordings released Antonio Banderas and Teatro del Soho CaixaBank’s second album featuring the acclaimed Spanish production of the Stephen Sondheim and George Furth musical Company, under the musical direction of Arturo Díez-Boscovich. This is the first Spanish-language recording of the iconic musical, now available for streaming and digital platforms worldwide.

The entire album is available to stream or download HERE. The CD will be released in Spain on Friday, November 11.

Banderas produced, directed and starred as Robert in Company, which first played at Teatro del Soho CaixaBank in Málaga, Spain in 2021 and was followed by a six-week run at Teatre Apolo in Barcelona beginning in May 2022. Starting on November 17, Banderas is returning to the lead role in the touring production in Madrid at The Hotel-Teatro AlbénizThe show was the winner of the Best Musical category at Spain’s prestigious 2022 MAX Awards.

“This recording of Company is the end result of Teatro del Soho Caixabank’s stage production of the musical,” said Antonio Banderas. “It is our second installment after the release of A Chorus Line earlier this year and has come to form part of a long-yearned-for reality, which is to progressively compile a collection of key titles with the hope of understanding the extraordinary values of American musical theater in all its complexity. The brilliant work done by Arturo Díez Boscovich with the original cast and the 26-strong orchestra that formed part of the stage adaptation was simply outstanding. Sondheim’s score has been respected almost reverentially and in direct proportion with the admiration all of us who have been part of this project feel for this great and already legendary composer.” 

The album was produced by Antonio Banderas and Teatro del Soho CaixaBank. The musical production was directed by Arturo Díez-Boscovich, Antonio Banderas, Manolo Toro and Sean Patrick Flahaven. Executive production by Marc Montserrat-Drukker and Noelia Ortega. The album was recorded, edited and mixed by Manolo Toro and mastered by Oscar Zambrano.

BIOGRAPHIES

Company, featuring music and lyrics by the legendary composer Stephen Sondheim, won six Tony Awards in 1971, including “Best Musical,” “Best Original Score” and “Best Book of a Musical.” Memorable musical numbers include “Being Alive,” “The Ladies Who Lunch,” “You Could Drive a Person Crazy” and “Company.” Originally produced and directed on Broadway by Harold Prince, Company opened on Broadway at the Alvin Theatre on April 15, 1970 and ran for 705 performances before closing on January 1, 1972. In London, it debuted at Her Majesty’s Theatre on January 18, 1972 and ran for 344 performances. Since its debut, the musical has been revived on Broadway four times, with the most recent production starring Katrina Lenk and Patti LuPone at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre from December 9, 2021 to July 31, 2022.

Antonio Banderas (producer, director, Robert). Since his introduction to American cinema, Banderas has been one of the most outstanding international actors of his generation. He has received critical acclaim for his roles in film, television and theatre, as well as for his work behind the camera as a director.

He has worked with some of the best directors and actors in Hollywood: Robert Rodriguez’s Desperado opposite Salma Hayek and the sequel Once Upon a Time in Mexico, opposite Johnny Depp; Original Sin with Angelina Jolie; Alan Parker’s Evita opposite Madonna (for which he received his first Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor); The Mask of Zorro, by Martin Campbell, opposite Catherine Zeta-Jones (second Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor), and the sequel The Legend of Zorro; Neil Jordan’s Interview with the Vampire with Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt; Jonathan Demme’s Philadelphia alongside Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington; Bille August’s House of the Spirits with Meryl Streep and Glenn Close; and Femme Fatale by Brian de Palma. In 2003, he was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for Nine, his Broadway debut, a Roundabout Theatre Company production inspired by Fellini’s 8 1/2, and which garnered him a Drama Desk Award for Best Actor, as well as Outer Critics Circle, Drama League and Theater World Awards.

He has also starred in “Genius: Picasso” (2018), the National Geographic limited series for which he received Primetime Emmy, Golden Globe, Critic’s Choice and SAG Award nominations for Best Actor in a Limited Series. He recently won the Best Actor Award at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival for his compelling performance as Salvador Mallo in Pedro Almodóvar’s autobiographical drama Pain and Glory, his eighth film with Almodóvar and one that earned him rave reviews.

In 2019 he promoted the Teatro del Soho CaixaBank project in his hometown, Malaga. The theatre opened with the musical A Chorus Line, its first production with John Breglio and Banderas himself as actor, co-director and producer of the show which was a great success with audiences and critics alike. In 2020 he created the Teatro Soho Televisión division for audiovisual projects and presented and directed the music program Escena en Blanco & Negro for Amazon Prime Video and the 35th  edition of the Goya Awards for the Spanish Film Academy. Now, from November 17th onwards, he will be playing Robert, the lead role in Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s musical “Company”, which he has also directed, in Madrid’s Universal Music Hotel Teatro Albéniz.

Stephen Sondheim (music and lyrics. 1930-2021) is widely acknowledged as the most innovative, most influential and most important composer and lyricist in modern Broadway history. For more than 50 years, Sondheim set an unsurpassed standard of brilliance and artistic integrity in the musical theatre. His accolades included an Academy Award, eight Tony Awards (more than any other composer) including the Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre, multiple Grammy Awards, multiple Drama Desk Awards and a Pulitzer Prize. Arturo Díez-Boscovich (musical director and conductor) has conducted Spain’s National Orchestra and Choir, Ukraine’s National Theater Orchestra and the State Orchestra of Sibiu (Romania), to name but a few. He has worked with composers and soloists such as Marco Beltrami, Michael Giacchino, José Bros, Gabriel Yared, Milagros Martín and Carlos Álvarez at venues such as Les Arts in Valencia, the Teatro del Liceu in Barcelona and the Kursaal in San Sebastian. Distinguished by Malaga’s City Council with the Best Contribution to Music Award 2014, he has been Musical Director of the Andalusian Lyric Theater, the International Film Music Festivals in Ubeda and Cordoba, the Lyric Theater in Huelva and Madrid’s Calderón Theater with the musical El Diario de Anna Frank (The Diary of Anne Frank). As a composer, Arturo Díez Boscovich has won the III Jerry Goldsmith Award for Young European Creators of Film Music and the Best Soundtrack prize at Barcelona’s Curt Fictions festival. He has conducted the La La Land Symphony Orchestra in concert and Stage Entertainment’s production of Les Misérables. In 2019, Arturo was appointed by Antonio Banderas as the Teatro del Soho CaixaBank’s principal conductor and musical director of the shows A Chorus Line and Company. He is also principal conductor of the newly created Sinfónica Pop del Soho, which is the result of Antonio Banderas’ artistic restlessness and designed to be the theater’s resident orchestra.

Nueva York, NY (28 de octubre, 2022) – Hoy Concord Theatricals / Craft Recordings lanza el segundo álbum de Antonio Banderas y Teatro del Soho CaixaBank de su aclamada producción “Company”, el musical de Stephen Sondheim y George Furth, bajo la dirección musical de Arturo Díez-Boscovich. La primera grabación en español de este icónico musical, ya disponible en streaming y plataformas digitales en todo el mundo.

Además de interpretar el papel principal de Robert, Banderas produjo y dirigió la versión española de Company, representada por primera vez en el Teatro del Soho CaixaBank en Málaga, España, en 2021, y seguida por una temporada de seis semanas en el Teatre Apolo de Barcelona. A partir del 17 de noviembre, Banderas volverá a protagonizar el musical en el Universal Music Hotel Teatro Albéniz. El espectáculo fue galardonado como Mejor Musical en los prestigiosos Premios MAX 2022, celebrados anualmente en España.

En 2019 impulsa el proyecto del Teatro del Soho CaixaBank en su tierra natal, Málaga. Su apertura con el musical A Chorus Line, la primera producción propia del teatro junto a John Breglio y el propio Banderas como actor, codirector y productor del espectáculo supuso un gran éxito de crítica y público. En 2020 crea la división Teatro Soho Televisión para proyectos audiovisuales y presenta y dirige el programa musical Escena en Blanco & Negro para Amazon Prime Video así como la 35 edición de los Premios Goya para la Academia de Cine. Ahora será Robert en Company, el musical de Stephen Sondheim y George Furth, que protagoniza y dirige en Madrid en el teatro en el Universal Music Hotel Teatro Albéniz a partir del 17 de noviembre.

Stephen Sondheim (música y letra)
Stephen Sondheim (1930-2021) es ampliamente reconocido como el compositor y letrista más innovador, influyente e importante en la historia moderna de Broadway. Durante más de 50 años, Sondheim estableció un sello único e inigualable de brillantez e integridad artística en el teatro musical. Su palmarés incluye un Academy Award, ocho Premios Tony (más que cualquier otro compositor), con un Tony especial por su trayectoria en el teatro, numerosos premios Grammy y Drama Desk y, también, un Premio Pulitzer. Escribió música y letras para Saturday Night, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Anyone Can Whistle, Company, Follies, A Little Night Music, The Frogs, Pacific Overtures, Sweeney Todd, Merrily We Roll Along, Sunday in the Park With George, Asesinos, Pasión y Road ShowTambién escribió las letras de West Side Story, Gypsy y Do I Hear a Waltz? y letras adicionales de Candide. Compuso música para “Evening Primrose” (TV) y las películas Stavisky, Reds y Dick Tracy. Sus letras recopiladas con ensayos han sido publicadas en dos volúmenes: Finishing the Hat y Look, I Made a Hat. En 2010, un teatro de Broadway fue renombrado en su honor.  

Arturo Díez-Boscovich
Ha dirigido la Orquesta y Coro Nacionales de España, la Orquesta del Teatro Nacional de Ucrania y la Orquesta del Estado de Sibiu (Rumania) entre otras. Ha trabajado con compositores y solistas como Marco Beltrami, Michael Giacchino, José Bros, Gabriel Yared, Milagros Martín y Carlos Álvarez en escenarios como el de Les Arts de Valencia, el Teatro del Liceu de Barcelona, ó el Kursaal de San Sebastián. Premiado por el Ayuntamiento de Málaga a la Mejor Labor Musical del año 2014, Boscovich ha sido Director Musical del Teatro Lírico Andaluz, del Festival Internacional de Música de Cine de las ciudades de Úbeda y Córdoba, del Teatro Lírico de Huelva y del Teatro Calderón de Madrid con el musical El Diario de Anna Frank. Como compositor, ha ganado el III Concurso Internacional para Jóvenes Creadores Europeos de Música para Cine Jerry Goldsmith y el premio a la mejor banda sonora en el festival Curt Fictions de Barcelona. Ha dirigido a la orquesta sinfónica de La La Land en concierto y de Los Miserables de Stage Entertainment. En 2019 Arturo es elegido por Antonio Banderas como director titular del Teatro del Soho CaixaBank y director musical de los espectáculos del teatro A Chorus Line Company. Asimismo, Arturo es director titular de la recién creada Sinfónica Pop del Soho, impulsada gracias a la inquietud artística de Antonio Banderas y pensada por éste como una orquesta residente del teatro.

En cuanto a la producción musical el teatro ha publicado el álbum de la producción española de A Chorus Line y cuenta con su propia orquesta, la Sinfónica Pop del Soho dirigida por Arturo Díez-Boscovich.
