LIMITED NEW YORK ENGAGEMENT
TO PLAY FINAL PERFORMANCE
SUNDAY, JANUARY 13
AT THE ROMULUS LINNEY COURTYARD THEATRE ON 42ND STREET
New York, NY (January 4, 2013) – The Off Broadway premiere of Emotional Creature, the newest play by Tony Award®-winning playwright, performer, activist, and The Vagina Monologues author Eve Ensler, will end its limited engagement as scheduled on Sunday, January 13th. Produced Off Broadway by Carole Black and Pat Mitchell, and directed by Obie Award-winner Jo Bonney (By the Way, Meet Vera Stark) with original music and musical direction by Charl-Johan Lingenfelder, Emotional Creature began previews The Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street) on Friday, October 26, 2012, and officially opened on Monday, November 12, 2012.
In its twelve week run, Emotional Creature will have played 16 preview performances, 71 regular performances, and was seen by audiences that included Anne Hathaway, Katie Couric, Jane Fonda, Gloria Steinem, Rosario Dawson, Christine Lahti, Kathy Najimi, Dylan McDermott, Annie Lennox, Suze Orman and Kerry Washington. Notably, thousands of girls were able to see the show with tickets sponsored by individual and corporate benefactors and supporters of V-Day, a global movement to stop violence against women and girls founded by Ensler in 1998.
The current cast of Emotional Creature includes: Ashley Bryant (A Free Man of Color); Molly Carden (The Bird and the Two-Ton Weight at Ensemble Studio Theatre); Emily S. Grosland (Off Broadway debut); Sade Namei (The Flying Latke at The Flea), Olivia Oguma (A Christmas Carol; Mamma Mia!) and Courtney Thomas (Off Broadway debut).
Based on Ensler’s 2010 bestselling book, Emotional Creature explores what it is to be a girl – all the joys and thrills, the rites of passage, the growing pains, and the unique pressures – through a series of original monologues, stories and songs. This fully-staged production spans wildly disparate cultures and continents, highlighting the diversity and commonality of the issues girls face, both personal and political, the world over. Emotional Creature was first workshopped at New York Stage and Film at Vassar College in August 2010, with subsequent workshops in Johannesburg, South Africa and Paris, France. It comes to New York on the heels of a critically acclaimed World Premiere at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre in California.
The creative team for Emotional Creature also includes Luam (Choreography), Myung Hee Cho (Scenic & Costume Design). Lap Chi Chu (Lighting Design) and Shawn Sagady (Projection Design).
Tickets for Emotional Creature are $75.00 and can be purchased at www.ticketcentral.com, by calling 212-279-4200, or at the Ticket Central box office (416 W 42nd Street) Monday through Sunday, 12 – 8 PM.
