To round out our final episode of the season, performer, Cabaret artist and Tony Award Winning Producer, Jamie DeRoy, joins us On The Couch. This season, she is on the teams for the many Tony Winners including both Best Play (Stereophonic) and Best Revival (Merrily We Roll Along). Other shows include The Who’s Tommy, Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club and Gutenberg. In total, she has Produced and Co-Produced over 80 Broadway and 50 off-Broadway shows.

In July, she is hosting a concert at Birdland, featuring performances from Julie Gold, Ben Jones, Daisy Jopling, Robert Klein and Jason Kravits. As well as promising to be filled with grand vocals, the concert will benefit The Entertainment Community Fund. You can get more information on their website.

What do you consider to be your best asset? 

My silver hair!

What was your proudest moment? 

Having set up Jamie deRoy & friends Cabaret Initiative with The Actors Fund.

It’s now been folded into the Entertainment Community Fund, since they are  helping all aspects of entertainment.

What is your favorite drink? 

Water with lots of ice!

What is your favorite food? 

Tuna and yellowtail sushi

What is your favorite condiment? 

SALT – but it doesn’t like me!

What is your current obsession? 

Anything purple!

If you could give up one of your vices, what would it be? 

Sweets!

What is the one professional accomplishment you long for most? 

I’d like to get a commercial or ad campaign for silver hair and letting your hair be natural.

What is the one thing you waste too much money on? 

Cat objects – not that I spend too much money – I just have too many cat things!

What is the one activity you waste too much time doing? 

Facebook!

What do you consider to be the single greatest threat to your health? 

Sitting too much.

What’s the single best trait you inherited or learned from your parents? 

A sense of humor.

What’s the single worst trait you inherited or learned from your parents? 

I’m sure I have some, but I refuse to recognize them.

What in the world most thrills you? 

Great theater!

What current trend in popular culture most irritates you? 

I HATE having to deal with automated voicemail. Press this key, press that number, just give me a receptionist I can talk to! (BTW – it used to be a great entry job for young people)

What was the most embarrassing moment you’ve ever experienced on the job? 

Years ago, onstage with Rene Auberjonois in The Threepenny Opera: my long skirt got caught in the curtain. As they raised the curtain – so raised my skirt – over my head!

What is your favorite place in the world? 

London.

What is the most important trait you seek in a romantic partner? 

Kindness and a sense of humor.

Do you prefer the company of dogs or cats?

Cats, but I do love dogs too. I just don’t want to walk them!

What would have to happen to make today the best day of your life? 

Winning the lottery, so I can produce more theater!

What is your personal motto? 

Be kind to everyone and always be present.
