New York, NY (August 1, 2024) – Today, it was announced that two-time Tony Award® nominee and multiple Olivier Award® winner Jamie Lloyd will direct a new production of Samuel Beckett’s Waiting For Godot starring Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter. Waiting for Godot will open on Broadway in the Fall of 2025 at an ATG theater to be announced with Reeves playing ‘Estragon’ and Winter playing ‘Vladimir.’

Reeves is one of Hollywood’s most beloved stars having appeared in over 100 feature films including cinematic hits like the John Wick series, The Matrix films, and Constantine; dramas such as My Own Private Idaho, Dangerous Liaisons, and The Gift; and comedies like Parenthood, Something’s Gotta Give, and Always Be My Maybe. Waiting For Godot will mark Reeves’ Broadway debut.

Winter is a much sought after actor, writer, and director. He recently wrapped production on Adulthood with Josh Gad and Kaya Scodelario which he directed and will also co-star. He has directed acclaimed documentaries The YouTube Effect, Zappa, Showbiz Kids, and The Panama Papers. He last appeared on Broadway in the 1979 production of Peter Pan where he played ‘John Darling’ opposite Sandy Duncan as the title character and as ‘Louis Leonowens’ in The King & I with Yul Brynner.

Reeves and Winter have a friendship that spans 35 years and began during the filming of the 1989 classic comedy Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure.

Waiting for Godot is produced by The Jamie Lloyd Company, ATG Productions, Bad Robot Live, and Gavin Kalin Productions. 101 Productions, Ltd. will serve as general manager.

BIOGRAPHIES

Samuel Beckett (Playwright; 1906-1989) is an Irish playwright, novelist, theatre director and poet, who is widely recognized as one of the greatest dramatists of the 20th century. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1969. Beckett is renowned for his play Waiting for Godot, which launched his career in theatre. He went on to write numerous successful plays, including Endgame in 1957, Krapp’s Last Tape in 1958, and Happy Days in 1960.

Keanu Reeves (Estragon). As a remarkably eclectic actor, Reeves has made an indelible mark on the world of entertainment through the diverse roles he has played. He is best known for his starring roles in The Matrix and John Wick franchises. Reeves made his comic book writing debut in 2021 with BRZRKR, a twelve-issue and graphic-novel limited series distributed through BOOM! Studios, which quickly became the highest-selling original comic book series debut in over 25 years. In 2023, he returned to the big screen in John Wick: Chapter 4, which became the highest-grossing film in the franchise. His other recent projects include The Matrix Resurrections, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Always Be My Maybe, Toy Story 4,and the video game Cyberpunk 2077. He recently completed filming Good Fortune directed by Aziz Ansari and Outcome directed by Jonah Hill. Raised in Toronto, Reeves performed in various local theater productions and on television before relocating to Los Angeles.

Alex Winter (Vladimir) is a director, writer, and actor who has worked across film, television, and theater. Entering show business as a child actor, with co-starring roles on Broadway in The King & I and Peter Pan, Winter came to prominence in movies such as Warner Bros’ hit The Lost Boys and the wildly popular Bill & Ted franchise. As a filmmaker, Winter’s narrative features include the cult classic Freaked, for 20th Century Fox and Fever, for Lionsgate, an official selection in the Directors’ Fortnight at Cannes.

Winter founded Trouper Productions in 2006 and has released several documentaries under that banner. Previous documentary work includes Deep Web, Downloaded, The Panama Papers, and Trust Machine: The Story Of Blockchain. Winter’s doc, Showbiz Kids produced by frequent collaborator Glen Zipper and Bill Simmons’ Ringer Films, premiered in July 2020. The highly anticipated third installment in the Bill & Ted franchise, Bill & Ted Face The Music, opened in August 2020, and is currently available on Blu-Ray, DVD, and digital platforms. Winter’s doc feature Zappa, the first all-access documentary on the life and times of Frank Zappa debuted in November to critical acclaim and was chosen as a Critics Pick in the New York Times. The Kickstarter campaign for this project was the highest funded documentary in crowdfunding history. Winter’s latest doc The YouTube Effect which was made in conjunction with Gale Anne Hurd and Glen Zipper premiered at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival and was released theatrically by Drafthouse Films in July. The film is now available on digital platforms and streaming on Kanopy.

Now in release is Winter’s new acting project, the gonzo horror-comedy, Destroy All Neighbors, which premiered on Shudder and in limited theaters in January 2024. Winter is currently directing and acting in the feature film, Adulthood, starring Josh Gad and Kaya Scodelario, due for release in 2025.
