MiMi Scardulla

Joining us On The Couch this week is MiMi Scardulla. Recently married to her wife, Skylar (congratulations!), MiMi is living the dream in more ways than one, having bounced from the Broadhurst for A Beautiful Noise, to the August Wilson for Cabaret. Read our full interview below, where MiMi describes her proudest moment and the only thing she loves more than her wife.

What do you consider to be your best asset?
My ability to see the positive and lift the spirits of those around me!

What was your proudest moment?
Performing on the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. When I was little I was more excited for the musical performances on the parade than I was for Santa Claus. So, when I stepped out on to the street, freezing, I thought of all the other chunky and cheerful little kids with dreams of Broadway. I’m tearing up writing this thinking about them again. I thought how beautiful it is that they don’t have to wonder if they’re made for this, how beautiful it is that they don’t have to search for someone who is plus size, how beautiful it is that front and center is a big girl dancing her buns  off on national television. That is a moment I’m most proud of and will never forget.

What is your favorite drink?
Diet Coke is my one true love. Apologies to my wife.

What is your favorite food?
Pepperoni pizza or my Maw Maw’s Jambalaya (come on over I’ll make it for you anytime!)

What is your favorite condiment?
Cane’s Sauce – it’s the nectar of the gods! Cane’s please sponsor this little Louisiana Girl!

What is your current obsession?
Staring at my new wedding band haha

If you could give up one of your vices, what would it be?
Impulse Buying

What is the one professional accomplishment you long for most?
To be the romantic lead of a musical and my size not be mentioned in a negative light. To fall in love in front a live audience just based on my character’s charm and personality. Bonus is if Tyler Hanes directs and choreographs this future show!

What is the one thing you waste too much money on?
Iced Oat Cappuccinos

What is the one activity you waste too much time doing?
Scrolling on Instagram

What do you consider to be the single greatest threat to your health?
So many Sassy Answers come to mind, but truthfully our medical system is broken so I pray to never have to be at the mercy of that system.

What’s the single best trait you inherited or learned from your parents?
Generosity.

What’s the single worst trait you inherited or learned from your parents?
My metabolism haha

What in the world most thrills you?
Art! Making art for the sake of making it. A creative using their voice in a world that has told them they should be silent.

What current trend in popular culture most irritates you?
Fake “Day in the Life” videos. I want to see the eye crusties.

What was the most embarrassing moment you’ve ever experienced on the job?
Early in my career I had a huge crush on an Associate Choreographer. They had really fun, eclectic style and one day complimented someone else’s overalls saying they thought it was so cute when girls wore baggy overalls. So, the next day the schedule made it seem like we weren’t going to dance very much so I went out bought cute new overalls and wore them the next day. Well, there was a schedule change up and we did indeed dance that next day and I ripped my overalls straight between the legs during the dance number. I’ve never worn overalls since.

What is your favorite place in the world?
Anywhere snuggled up with my entire family.

What is the most important trait you seek in a romantic partner?
Someone who is game for anything life throws us like their in-laws moving in with them the day after their wedding LOL

Do you prefer the company of dogs or cats?
Dogs all the way, but I will say, recently those little flat face cats have taken over my Instagram and I’ve almost bought one three times.

What would have to happen to make today the best day of your life?
I get the call that they’re doing a Sweet Charity Revival and they want me to play Charity.

What is your personal motto?
Don’t let anyone tell you who you are or what you’re going to be. You know who you are. You know what you want. Work Hard. Be Kind. Clap for the ones that came before you and when it’s your time they will clap for you.
