Paulo Szot
From Way Down Under the Ground, the newest Hades in Hadestown, Paulo Szot, joins us On the Couch this week. A Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, and Theatre World Award winner for his 2008 Broadway debut in South Pacific, Szot is also a seasoned opera singer, having performed ten seasons with the Metropolitan Opera, and in operas around the world. What do you consider to be your best asset?
To grow up in a family that loved and supported me.
What was your proudest moment?
Arriving in Europe to follow my dreams after a 23-day trip on a cargo ship from Brazil, when I was seventeen. (That’s what I could afford)

What is the one professional accomplishment you long for most?
I am happy very happy with everything that already happened to me in my career, I just wish to keep in good health for the next years.

Everything on Amazon…
What is the one activity you waste too much time doing?
Online surfing …
What do you consider to be the single greatest threat to your health?
Respiratory viruses we catch along the way makes singing so difficult and many times impossible…
What’s the single best trait you inherited or learned from your parents?
To follow your dreams, no matter what.
What’s the single worst trait you inherited or learned from your parents?
My parents were magnificent, really!
What in the world most thrills you?
A baby’s laughter.
What current trend in popular culture most irritates you?
Alienation from the real world and fake news.
What was the most embarrassing moment you’ve ever experienced on the job?
So many…. Like arriving to a first musical rehearsal and have missed learning a whole song because I didn’t check the score thoroughly.
What is your favorite place in the world?
My bed.
What is the most important trait you seek in a romantic partner?
Companionship
Do you prefer the company of dogs or cats?
I love all animals but dogs are special.

Just waking up healthy!
