“Ah, But Underneath”

Ali Hewson, Anna Wintour, Reeve Carney and Jennifer Damiano at the Edun pop-up store duing Fashion’s Night Out.

Ladies and Gents,

If you were stuck in traffic in Manhattan last Friday night, you had one very powerful woman to blame: Anna Wintour. Yes, when Anna Wintour tells the city to stop, it comes to a grinding halt. Friday marked the sophomore outing of Anna’s brainchild Fashion’s Night Out, and it was even bigger and better this time around. I was kicking about the Meatpacking District, which became one huge block party (Mardi Gras in stilettos), with folks hopping from boutique-to-boutique shopping a little and drinking a lot. I ran into the great Bruce Glikas – Broadway’s iconic lensman –where he was shooting candids of Reeve Carney and Jennifer Damiano, Broadway’s new Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson, strolling down a picturesque cobblestone side street, exhibiting both fashion sense and chemistry to spare! The pretty young things then hopped into a gigantic SUV together, and headed off into the night, while I popped into Edun pop-up store to pick up a few gorgeous items for Fall. Then, on a tip, I scooted to Don Hills – a soho nightclub so filthy that I put toilet paper down on my bar stool before sitting. I spotted Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, HBO hottie Adrian Grenier, Chloë Sevigny, and Theodora Richards amongst the chic revelers. Apparently filth is in this season!

In theatrical news, Our Town played its final performance at the Barrow Street Theatre on Sunday. Producers Scott Morfee, Jean Doumanian, and Tom Wirtshafter were in the audience, along with many of the alums who’ve played the show over the last year-and-a-half, including “Stage Managers” Jason Butler Harner, Michael Shannon, Stephen Kunken and Helen Hunt. The production’s director and original “stage manager” David Cromer played the role one last time. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house during the curtain call. The show left me hungry for more great theater … and bacon!

Tidbits from around town…

Caught President Bill Clinton looking longingly through the windows of the new Shake Shack on 8th Avenue.

Witnessed local Fox anchor Rosanna Scotto exiting a treatment room at Bliss Spa in Soho, looking very relaxed.

Spotted Edie Falco, with Richie Jackson and Jordan Roth, at Our Town, seated near another TV icon: Jaclyn Smith.

As always, a toast of something sparkling to you and yours!

Kisses,
