BARROW STREET THEATRE
ANNOUNCES 2014-2015 SEASON

A ROSTER OF AWARD-WINNING SHOWS TO APPEAR

New York City – ( August 2014) The Barrow Street Theatre will present an eclectic mix of comedy, improv, 3D shadow puppetry, and master storytelling all in their upcoming Fall season which also marks the theatre’s 10th anniversary.  All work will be presented at the Barrow Street Theatre (27 Barrow Street) in New York City’s West Village.

Kicking off the season, directly from the Beckett Festival in Northern Ireland, is New Yiddish Rep's groundbreaking production of Waiting for Godot (performed entirely in Yiddish with English supertitles) as part of the 2014 Origin's 1st Irish Festival.  12 performances: Thursday – Saturday at 7:30pm, and Sunday at 2pm, beginning September 4.  Tickets are $45 and $65.

TJ & Dave return September 11 – 14 for four nights.  The Chicago improv duo are now celebrating their 10th year of sold-out shows at Barrow Street Theatre.  Tickets are $22.

The award-winning Belfast Blues, written and performed by Geraldine Hughes (“Jerusalem”), and directed by Emmy-Award® winner Carol Kane (“Wicked”) returns for a limited engagement beginning September 20.  Hughes’s one woman show is a tapestry of stories told from her perspective as a little girl coming of age in the war-torn Belfast of the 1980s.  Performances run Saturday and Sunday at 5pm through October 5.  Tickets are $45 and $65.

Riding the Midnight Express with Billy Hayes begins previews on September 24, direct from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Hayes recounts the true story of his arrest in Istanbul for smuggling hash and his brazen escape from prison, rowing 17 miles across the open sea in the dark of night during a raging storm. The show officially opens October 2, 39 years to the day of his harrowing escape.  It is an epic journey of self-discovery; written and performed by the man who lived it.  Wednesday – Saturday at 7:30pm, Sundays at 2pm.  Tickets are $45 and $65.

Later in October, the Neo-futurists perform their Drama Desk® nominated, The Complete & Condensed Stage Directions of Eugene O’Neill VOL I, and the follow-up VOL II in repertory.  The O'Neill stage direction adventure that The New York Times called “Great fun” and “an impish illustration of how lively entertainment can be created from theatrical spare parts” continues with both volumes together for the first time. By removing the dialogue and stripping the plays down to pure action, O'Neill's eloquent yet obsessive and often controlling stage directions become a rip-roaring physical comedy.  This limited engagement begins October 28.  Tickets are $45.

And beginning Thanksgiving week, Jeff Achtem lands in New York City with his critically acclaimed Swamp Juice, a puppet show that has wowed audiences of all ages around the globe for the past two years.  Using shadow puppets made from bits of rubbish, Achtem presents a gurgling adventure about life in a swamp, with an eye-popping 3D finale.  Select performances will be presented in tandem with a hands-on workshop sharing some of Achtem’s coveted secrets.  This winner of the 2011 Total Theatre Award at the Edinburgh Fringe returns for a limited holiday engagement.  Tickets are $45.  Family packages and the workshop schedule will be announced in September.

Tickets for all shows are now on sale via Smarttix or 212.868.4444, and at the Barrow Street Theatre box office at 27 Barrow Street at 7th Avenue South in the heart of Greenwich Village. Nearby subway stops are the 1 at Christopher Street (walk 1 block South on 7th Avenue to Barrow) and the A, C, E, B, D, F and M at West 4th (walk West on 4th Street, left on Barrow).  $20 Student Rush tickets are now available in advance via Smarttix, 1 ticket per valid student ID, to be shown at Will Call no earlier than 30 minutes prior to performance.  Box office hours for the month of August are Monday – Friday, 1pm to 6:30. Saturday from 1pm to 6pm.  Closed Sundays and Labor Day.  Beginning September 2 the box office will be open at 1pm daily.
