New York, NY (August 10, 2020) – Broadway On Demand, the new theater-focused streaming platform, will exclusively stream the final New York City concert of Marin Mazzie and Jason Danieley live from Feinstein’s / 54 Below, Marin Mazzie & Jason Danieley: Broadway & Beyond, this Friday, August 14 at 8:00 PM ET.
Taking their audience on a journey through the shows they both loved and on which they left their marks, Broadway & Beyond marks the couple’s final New York City performance together before Mazzie’s passing. The concert features songs from Ragtime; Passion; The Full Monty; Curtains; The Visit; Kiss Me, Kate; among others.
Broadway & Beyond is a celebration of Marin and Jason’s life together through music and theatre, with songs they introduced in original Broadway cast productions, songs from Broadway revivals, and from their concerts across the country. During this concert, Ms. Mazzie had been living with ovarian cancer since her diagnosis on May 6, 2015. At the time of her passing on September 13, 2018, Marin and Jason were just short of celebrating their 21st wedding anniversary.
This exclusive event on Broadway On Demand will also include a free pre-show event featuring Brian Stokes Mitchell, Marin’s co-star in the Tony Award-winning Ragtime, beginning at 7:30 PM ET. For tickets and more information, please click HERE.
The concert will be streamed Friday, August 14, 2020 at 8:00 PM ET, with a free pre-show event beginning at 7:30 PM ET, at BroadwayOnDemand.com. For a one-time payment of $7.99, the concert will include a 48-hour playback period. All proceeds will be donated to the Cancer Support Community (CSC), Tina’s Wish, and The Actors Fund through Broadway Cares Equity Fights Aids.
BIOGRAPHIES
MARIN MAZZIE, a three-time Tony nominee for Ragtime; Passion; and Kiss Me, Kate, became a tireless patient advocate following her 2015 diagnosis with ovarian cancer. She passed away on September 13, 2018. The Tony Administration Committee honored Mazzie with a Special Tony Award in 2019 in recognition of her advocacy in the theatre community and support of women’s health initiatives. A critically acclaimed performer and inductee into the American Theatre Hall of Fame, Mazzie has been heard in many of the country’s major symphony halls, cabaret and concert venues, and has been seen starring in some of the most memorable musicals on the Broadway stage and London’s West End. Marin starred on Broadway as Anna Leonowens in Lincoln Center’s acclaimed revival of The King and I for which she received the Joan Cullman Award for Extraordinary Creativity at Lincoln Center. Previous to that, Marin starred on Broadway as “Helen Sinclair” in Woody Allen’s Bullets Over Broadway for which she received the Outer Critics Circle Award. Marin starred on Broadway in Next to Normal opposite real-life husband, Jason Danieley. She received Tony and Drama Desk nominations and an Outer Critics Circle Award for her performance as Lilli/Katharine in the hit revival of Kiss Me, Kate, and later received an Olivier Award nomination when she made her West End debut in the show. Other Broadway credits include: Enron, Monty Python’s Spamalot (also West End); Ragtime (Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics noms.); Passion (Tony nom.); Man of La Mancha, Into the Woods, Big River, Out of this World, Kismet and Zorba (Encores!). Her Off-Broadway appearances comprise of Terrence McNally’s Fire and Air, the revival of Carrie (Drama Desk and Lucille Lortel Award nominations) as well as The Vagina Monologues, The Trojan Women: A Love Story, and The World Goes Round (also National Tour). Marin’s extensive concert career spanned the country from Carnegie Hall to the Hollywood Bowl to around the world in Abu Dhabi and the Czech Republic. She has been seen with the NY Philharmonic in two of their PBS specials: “Sondheim: The Birthday Concert” and their “Live at Lincoln Center” performance of Camelot as Guenevere. Other PBS’ Great Performances: “Passion,” “My Favorite Broadway: The Leading Ladies,” “My Favorite Broadway: The Love Songs,” and “Live from Lincoln Center’s Ring Them Bells! A Kander & Ebb Celebration” (also with husband Danieley, Chita Rivera and Joel Grey). Marin and her husband, Jason Danieley, performed their cabaret concerts “He Said/She Said,” “Opposite You” and “Broadway & Beyond,” among others, at Feinstein’s/54Below, The Cafe Carlyle, Feinstein’s at the Loew’s Regency, Lincoln Center’s American Songbook series, Joe’s Pub, the Cinegrill, and numerous other venues nationally. Marin received critical acclaim for her solo show, Make Your Own Kind of Music, at 54 Below which was released on Broadway Records. Marin holds an honorary doctorate and has a musical theater scholarship in her name from her alma mater, Western Michigan University.
JASON DANIELEY is a critically acclaimed and award-winning Broadway actor, singer and concert performer, who most recently starred on Broadway as the ill-mannered Philip Stuckey in Pretty Woman: The Musical. Prior to that, other Broadway credits include Billy Flynn in Chicago, The Visit as Schoolmaster Kuhn, and Aaron Fox in Curtains (Outer Critics Circle nomination) all three musicals written by Kander & Ebb. Jason played husband Dan Goodman opposite his real-life wife, Marin Mazzie, in the Tony and Pulitzer Prize Award-winning musical, Next to Normal. He made his Broadway debut as the titular character in the Harold Prince helmed Candide (Theatre World Award and Drama Desk Nomination) and originated the role of Malcolm in the Broadway and West End casts of The Full Monty. He’s had leading roles in A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and Strike Up the Band as part of City Center’s Encores series. His Off-Broadway performances include The Trojan Women: A Love Story, Dream True by Ricky Ian Gordon and Floyd Collins by Adam Guettel. Some of his Regional Theatre appearances include George in Sunday In The Park With George (Joseph Jefferson nomination), Some Lovers by Burt Bacharach, The Highest Yellow by Michael John LaChiusa (Helen Hayes Award, Best Actor in a Musical), Beauty by Tina Landau, Casino Paradise by William Bolcolm, 110 In The Shade (Garland Award – Best Actor in a Musical) and Brigadoon at Los Angeles’ Reprise concert series, the last two co-starring with Ms. Mazzie. He has made several concert appearances on PBS; South Pacific at Carnegie Hall, two of the NY Philharmonic’s specials Sondheim: A Birthday Celebration and Carousel along with Live from Lincoln Center’s Ring Them Bells! A Kander & Ebb Celebration alongside Marin and Chita Rivera and Joel Grey. As a concert soloist and a duo with Ms. Mazzie, Jason has appeared with many of the world’s leading orchestras including the New York, Boston and Philly Pops, L.A. Philharmonic, Czech Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, San Francisco, San Diego, St. Louis, Grant Park, Ravinia Festival, Utah, Minnesota and Buffalo Symphonies, Orchestra of St. Luke’s and the BBC Concert Orchestra singing all over the globe. He also appeared in numerous critically acclaimed performances with fellow Broadway star and late wife, Marin Mazzie, in their theatrical cabaret concerts Opposite You, He Said/She Said and Broadway & Beyond in some of the country’s leading venues including Feinstein’s/54Below, Café Carlyle, Feinstein’s at the Lowes Regency, Joe’s Pub and the Cinegrill to name only a very few. Jason can be heard on all of the original cast albums Floyd Collins, Dream True, Candide, The Full Monty, Curtains, The Visit, Pretty Woman, concert cast albums South Pacific, Carousel and his solo album Jason Danieley & The Frontier Heroes as well as the two albums with Marin Opposite You (NPR album of the year) and Marin & Jason: Broadway & Beyond, the last three available on Broadway Records.
