Ben Platt

Ben Platt

If Ben Platt didn’t capture the hearts and minds of a theater-going audience as Evan Hansen at the Music Box Theatre, he certainly did when he ascended the
stage at Radio City to accept his award for Best Actor in a Musical. There’s really no need to rattle off Ben’s professional accomplishments, because we all
know those. But we can tell you that he’s just as kind, generous and humble as he seemed on CBS. For a very special #fbf edition of On the Couch, we are
throwing it back to Mr. Platt in 2015, when Dear Evan Hansen first premiered at DC’s Arena Stage. Note his very sweet and prophetic answer to the question
about what professional accomplishment he longed for most, and enjoy!

What do you consider to be your best asset?
My supportive family. And my white boy soul.

Opening up Dear Evan Hansen this summer and originating the lead role in a brand-spanking new original musical will be my proudest moment. And my

Sushi and cheescake.

What is your favorite condiment?
I love me some Spicy Mayo.

What is your current obsession?
Clark Beckham, the runner-up on this last season of American Idol. Brother can SING.

To win a Tony Award and be recognized by the Theatre community, my favorite community in the world.

My ability to stay up all night watching YouTube videos of soulful singers. And anything vocally-damaging, G-d forbid.

My Jewfro.

Being onstage. Hands down.

Dogs! My puppy Bella is a princess. And also I’m allergic to cats.

What would have to happen to make today the best day of your life?
Somebody would have to tell me that Dear Evan Hansen is moving to New York. Or Beyoncé would have to show up and hug me and teach me to dance.

What is your personal motto?
Be who you are. It’s a waste of time trying to be anyone else.
