Donyale Werle
A recent new-comer to the Broadway scene, Donyale Werle has enjoyed success designing 2010’s Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson and is now flying high with her Tony winning scenic design for Peter and the Starcatcher. Donyale works with salvaged materials to create unique, handcrafted sets and props; and is the Co-Chair of the Pre/Post Production Committee for the Broadway Green Alliance. Q: What do you consider to be your best asset?
A: My right hand.
Q: What was your proudest moment?
A: Standing at the alter with my long-time honey, Paul Jepson.
Q: What is your favorite drink?
A: Rose. A delicious pink wine.
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: Favorite? Dietary restrictions have narrowed my list, but I would say avocados, beef, tomatoes, green chile, broccolini, rice, chocolate. I can do alot with those seven.
Q: What is your favorite condiment?
A: I put pepper on everything. Is that a condiment?
Q: What is your current obsession?
A: Spotify. Like 15 hrs a day. Can't get enough of it. Greatest invention since the iphone 4
Q: If you could give up one of your vices, what would it be?
A: Coffee. A delicious brown beverage.
Q: What is the one professional accomplishment you long for most?
A: To design THAT crazy musical.
Q: What is the one thing you waste too much money on?
A: To quote my husband, “many things”
Q: What is the one activity you waste too much time doing?
A: I spend alot of time gardening–only a waste when I should be doing something else, like emailing, which I'm bad at.
Q: What do you consider to be the single greatest threat to your health?
A: Peanut butter. And it's everywhere.
Q: What is the single best trait you inherited or learned from your parents?
A: To work hard.

Q: What in the world most thrills you?
A: Theater. Music, great music, even bad music (sometimes). Long drives in the desert, although I can't really drive. Spending time in my 4' x 8' garden. Camping with my husband. Great salvaging finds. Sustainable anything.
Q: What current trend in popular culture most irritates you?
A: Sharing everything. Group think. Not a fan of Pinterest.
Q: What was the single most embarrassing moment you've ever experienced on the job?
A: It's too embarrassing to talk about.
Q: What is your favorite place in the world?
A: The desert. I'll do place(s): Joshua Tree, Death Valley & Anza Borrega in CA, Big Basin & Hwy 50 in Nevada, New Mexico. I live in the city, but my soul is out by a rock where cell service does not reside.
Q: What is the most important trait you seek in a romantic partner?
A: Partnership
Q: Do you prefer the company of dogs or cats?
A: I definitely prefer the company of cats; many, many cats.
Q: What would have to happen to make today the best day of your life?
A: It would first need to stop raining…when will it stop raining?
Q: What is your personal motto?
A: Work hard. Creativity isn't handed to you, you have to find it after alot of mistakes.
