Drew Gehling

Drew Gehling

Drew Gehling may be best known for originating the role of Dr. Jim Pomatter in the hit-show Waitress, but did you know he almost went on to study medicine instead of pursuing a career as a performer?! Thankfully, for all of us, Drew chose theater and has gone on to star in many shows such as Jersey Boys and On A Clear You Can See Forever. Recently, Drew headed out West and can presently be seen as Jeff Bebe in Almost Famous, playing at The Old Globe Theater in San Diego, California. Now, join us “On The Couch” this week with Drew!

What is your favorite condiment?
Honey mustard…no…chipotle aioli…no…sir Kensington’s ketchup…no…

What is your current obsession?
I’m really into the new Dark Crystal series on Netflix. Also, there’s this show called Working Moms that is just fantastic.

If you could give up one of your vices, what would it be?
I’m such a night owl these days working on a new show but it’s also something I love. However, I have equal praise for being up first thing in the morning.  The world is new in the morning.  I’d kill my night owl self for my early bird.

Optimism.

What is the single worst trait you inherited or learned from your parents?
Tardiness.

What in the world most thrills you?
Excitement. I’m a bit of an adrenaline junkie so any high adventure activity interests me…I’ve been sky diving twice and I want to learn to fly a plane.

What current trend in popular culture most irritates you?
The disparity between Instagram and reality.

What was the single most embarrassing moment you’ve ever experienced on the job?
I had just had my daughter and about two weeks later I was about to make my entrance in Jersey Boys on Broadway. I had gotten dressed. Warmed up. Filled my stage right and stage left water bottles and gotten into place to be ready to do the show. As I walked out on stage under Tommy Devito’s narration and sat down at my keyboard to begin my season I remembered…I had forgotten to put on my microphone. I really didn’t know what to do so I did the only thing I could think of: I promptly stood up and walked off stage, back to my dressing room and we stopped an entire musical freight train for 10 minutes.

What is your favorite place in the world?
With my family on a holiday. Any holiday as long as we’re all together.

What is the most important trait you seek in a romantic partner?
Kindness.

Let me put it this way: If I were flying today and it took me 5 minutes to get from the car to the plane…best day ever…

Tomorrow can always be better.
