“Hair” is Back on Tonight for Tour’s 300th Performance – New Tribe Members Announced

NEW TRIBE MEMBERS ANNOUNCED

New York, NY (08/29/11) –New York’s Public Theater (Oskar Eustis, Artistic Director) and Joey Parnes have announced that HAIR: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical will once again rock Broadway this evening, following a one-day shuttering this past Saturday due to Hurricane Irene. Tonight’s 7:00 PM performance will also mark the national tour’s 300th performance. The Tony Award-winning revival of HAIR kicked of its first national tour at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC on October 28, 2010 (following a preview engagement in New Haven, CT) and played 20 cities around the country before heading back to Broadway for a limited “Summer of Love” run at the St. James Theatre (246 West 44th Street). Producers also announced today that Kacie Sheik (Jeanie), who has been with HAIR since it began as a 40th Anniversary concert in 2007, along with tribe members Arbender Robinson and Cailan Rose will all play their final performances with the show when it ends its Broadway run on September 10th. HAIR will introduce Aleque Reid as Jeanie, Max Kumangai and Anne Markt into the tribe when it resumes its national tour at Dallas’s AT&T Performing Arts Center on September 20th.

“Kacie Sheik has been one of the beautiful angels of HAIR for four years, since the 40th anniversary concert at the Delacorte in the fall of 2007. We thank her for all she has given us, wish her peace and love in her future, and welcome our new ‘Slum goddess of the lower east side,’ the remarkable Aleque Reid,” Eustis said.

As previously announced, the production is counting down its final days on Broadway with a slew of special offers and programs called “Great HAIR Days,” which continue tonight with “Honeymoon in the 7th House” (see below for more details).

In the spirit of the weddings at the St. James last month, HAIR fans married after June 21st 2011 will be offered a special discount at the box office for a $50 ticket to that evening’s performance; must present a copy of your marriage license, limit 2 per order. . Tuesday, August 30th – Tweet-In
Come to The Tweet-In! All HAIR fans are welcome to attend this Tweet-In, where there will be a Tweet-Up before the show, at intermission to tweet about Act One, and a special stage door tweet-in after the show with the cast.

Wednesday, August 31st – Facebook Dance Party Day
All audience members are encouraged to take pictures with their cameras and phones during the dance party after the curtain call, upload them to Facebook and share them on the Official HAIR Broadway Facebook page.

Thursday, September 1st– Columbia Night
Columbia Students are welcome to this special Columbia Night during their Orientation where your Columbia Student ID will allow you to purchase up to 4 Student Rush Seats to that evening’s performance for $20 each; must show valid ID. Discount valid for select mezzanine or balcony tickets.

Saturday, September 10th – The Ultimate HAIR Fan Love-In
Calling all HAIR fans to attend these final two performances on Broadway. This is your last chance to see “The Summer Of Love” before the cast heads back out on the National Tour.

HAIR’s triumphant return to Broadway follows the launch of its successful first national tour of 20 cities in 9 months during the 2010-2011 season and features members of the Central Park tribe, Broadway Revival tribe, London Revival tribe and new tribe members. Winner of the of the 2009 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical, and the Drama Desk, Drama League, and Outer Critics Circle 2009 awards for Outstanding Revival of a Musical, HAIR opened on Broadway at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre to unanimous raves March 31, 2009 and played more than 500 performances before closing on June 27, 2010.

Directed by Diane Paulus, HAIR features a book and lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado and music by Galt MacDermot. The story of a group of young Americans searching for love and peace during the Vietnam era, HAIR is a timeless portrait of a movement that changed the world. Its groundbreaking rock score paved the way for some of the greatest musicals of our time.
