“NOT MY FATHER’S SON”

New York, NY (June 19, 2015)– To celebrate Father’s Day this weekend, Kinky Boots producers Daryl Roth and Hal Luftig have released a never-before-heard original demo by the show’s Tony and Grammy Award-winning composer Cyndi Lauper. The track, which features Lauper singing “Not My Father’s Son,” was recorded in 2009 and was among the first songs to be penned for the now Tony Award-winning musical.

“At its heart, Kinky Boots is about father/son relationships and the effects (both good and bad) our parents have on us. It’s a subject we can all relate to. Truthfully, do any of us ever outgrow wanting our fathers’ approval?” the show’s writer, Harvey Fierstein said.

“Writing ‘Not My Father’s Son’ was particularly personal for me, since I’ve witnessed my own son’s relationship with his dad over the years,” Lauper chimed in. “Watching their interaction definitely provided a lot of inspiration for this song.”
