New York, NY – (2/22/12) Labyrinth Theater Company (Co-Artistic Directors Stephen Adly Guirgis, Mimi O’Donnell, Yul Vázquez and Managing Director, Danny Feldman), Off-Broadway’s home of exhilarating and incendiary theater, announced today the creative team and initial casting for the World Premiere production of Ninth and Joanie, written by Brett C. Leonard and directed by Mark Wing-Davey. Performances begin at The Bank Street Theater (155 Bank St.) on April 5, 2012.

Tickets will go on sale March 6 at labtheater.org, with an exclusive pre-sale opportunity for LABpass Members.

Kevin Corrigan (The Departed, “Grounded for Life”) and Bob Glaudini (The Poison Tree, Jack Goes Boating) will star as prodigal son and grieving father in this powerful new play set on Ninth Street in South Philadelphia in 1986.  As Labyrinth Co-Artistic Director Yul Vázquez said today, “Brett C. Leonard picks up where dark ends. We love that.”  While additional casting is still forthcoming, this announcement marks a return to acting for Glaudini, after many years working as an established playwright and screenwriter in New York, and a Labyrinth deubt for Corrigan, who will be taking the Bank Street Theater stage after many years as a close friend of the Company.

On the creative side, it has been announced that Set Design will be by David Meyer, Costume Design by Labyrinth Co-Artistic Director Mimi O'Donnell, Lighting Design by Bradley King, and Sound Design by Zack Brown.

Brett C. Leonard (Playwright) has been a member of Labyrinth Theater Company since 2003. His plays have been produced in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, London, Toronto, Berlin and Sydney. In early 2010 The Long Red Road was directed by Philip Seymour Hoffman, starring Tom Hardy, in an extended-run world premiere at Goodman Theatre in Chicago. In 2008 Unconditional was directed by Mark Wing-Davey in its world premiere by Labyrinth Theater Company at New York’s Public Theater, and was published in Smith and Kraus’ New Playwrights: The Best Plays of 2008.  In 2004 Guinea Pig Solo had its world premiere as the inaugural Labyrinth/Public Theater co-production, and was later produced at Chicago's Collaboraction, where it was named Chicago Tribune’s “Top 10 of 2005” and “most visceral show of the year.” In 2007 Guinea Pig Solo was presented as part of the Berlin Arts Festival’s 50th Anniversary at the House of World Culture. Roger and Vanessa has been produced in London, Los Angeles and Sydney. Scotch and Water was first produced by New Company in London, where it was selected as Critics’ Choice in Time Out London. Short plays include Beauty and Light, Interrogation, Bobo an’ Spyder…, and What I’m Looking For, (Best Play, Sketchbook Chicago 2010). Leonard is the recipient of the 2008 Daryl Roth Creative Spirit Award and is Co-Artistic Director (with Tom Hardy) of London’s Bad Dog Theatre Company. Guinea Pig Solo, Unconditional, Roger and Vanessa, Scotch and Water and The Long Red Road are published by Broadway Play Publishing. Leonard’s new play Ninth and Joanie will receive its world premiere in the Spring of 2012 in New York City, produced by Labyrinth Theater Company, directed by Mark Wing-Davey. Leonard’s past and upcoming film and television projects include a screenplay adaptation of The Long Red Road, Unconditional (Cooper’s Town Prods.), Hung (HBO, writer/producer), The Other (Lionsgate Films), Jailbait (Belladonna/Warner Brothers), Upstate (HBO, executive producer; co-created w/Bob Glaudini; executive-produced by Philip Seymour Hoffman’s Cooper’s Town Prods. and E-1 Entertainment), and as creator/executive producer of a new HBO series being developed for James Gandolfini’s Attaboy Prods., currently titled “Taxi-22”.

Mark Wing-Davey (Director) first came to prominence in the United States with his highly acclaimed 1992 production of Caryl Churchill’s Mad Forest at New York Theatre Workshop.  Since then he has worked extensively in New York City, for NYTW, Manhattan Theatre Club, Lincoln Center, Playwright’s Horizons, and the Public Theater – directing Troilus and Cressida and Henry 5 in Central Park. He directed Sarah Ruhl’s Passion Play at the Goodman in Chicago, Yale Rep and most recently for Epic Theater in a site-specific production at the Irondale Center in Brooklyn.  Additional US and international credits include productions of new and classic plays at ACT, ART, Berkeley, Cincinnati, La Jolla, Mark Taper, McCarter, Milwaukee Rep, Pittsburgh Public, Playmaker’s Rep, Seattle Rep; London’s Royal Court Theatre, National Theatre, the Edinburgh Festival, and musicals in the West End, and Australia. Committing much of his career to developing new plays, he has directed new work by Caryl Churchill, Amy Freed, Naomi Iizuka, Jose Rivera, Anna Deveare Smith, Tony Kushner, and Craig Lucas, amongst others. His more recent credits include the world première of Brett C. Leonard’s UNCONDITIONAL for Labyrinth Theater Company Theater and Craig Lucas's The Singing Forest at the Public Theater, and workshops two musicals by Brett C. Leonard, Stephen Adly Guirgis’ piece: Untitled Ass Play and Carson Kreitzer’s play about the photographer Lee Miller – Behind The Eye (directing its première in Cincinnati in April 2011). This summer he directed Keith Reddin’s new play Acquainted With The Night for the O’Neill Playwright’s Conference.  He is slated to direct three world premières in Spring 2012: KMT – an adaptation of Sukhovo-Kobylin’s Russian Trilogy – at NYU, Mona Mansour’s new play The Hour of Feeling for the Louisville Humana Festival and Brett C. Leonard’s new play Ninth and Joanie for Labyrinth in New York. Mr. Wing-Davey is currently the Chair of Graduate Acting at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts where in September 2010 he premièred Tony Kushner’s music theater work: The Henry Box Brown Play.

Kevin Corrigan (Michael) has appeared in many feature films including Superbad, Pineapple Express, American Gangster, The Departed, Big Fan, Buffalo '66, Slums of Beverly Hills, Walking and Talking, and Goodfellas. On television he played recurring roles on “Damages,” “Fringe,” and was a cast regular on the sitcom “Grounded for Life.”  His last play was Lobby Hero by Kenneth Lonergan at South Coast Rep. He is honored to be working with Labyrinth Theater Company.

Bob Glaudini (Charlie) Labyrinth Company Member since 2004. As a playwright, works include A View From 151st Street, Jack Goes Boating, Dutch Heart of Man (Labyrinth); The Identical Same Temptation (Theater for a New City); On Borrowed Time, Against the Sun (Theater Genesis), and The Claiming Race, Sickness of Youth, and The Poison Tree (Mark Taper Forum). He also wrote the screenplay for the film adaptation of “Jack Goes Boating.”  He directed the world premiere of Sam Shepard’s Mad Dog Blues at Theater Genesis and the premiere of Cowboy Mouth, written by Mr. Shepard and Patti Smith at The American Place Theatre.

Zack Brown (Sound Design) is a Professional Freelance Lighting and Sound Designer. Design credits include: A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Warehouse Theatre), Urinetwon (St Peter’s College), The Sweepers (Curtain Call) The Confidence Man (Woodshed Collective), Exposed: The Curious Case of Shiloh and Zahara (Stage 13), Grace (Rising Circle), WWYLMBG!!! (Catch / PS122), Jesus Hopped The A Train (Cincinnati Shakespeare, Jackie Award), Romeo and Juliet (Classic Stage Company) SUENO (NYU). Assistant design credits include: Radio City Christmas Spectacular, God of Carnage and Mary Stuart (Broadway). He received an MFA in stage design from New York University in 2008.

Bradley King (Lighting Design) is a lighting designer based in New York City whose designs have been seen across the US and United Kingdom. Recent NYC: Children (TACT), How the World Began (Women's Project – Associate), Assassins and Sweet Charity (New Studio on Broadway), Dead Fish (HERE Arts), Tongue of a Bird and StrindbergStrindberg (NYU Graduate Acting). Recent Regional: A Christmas Carol (Virginia Stage Company), The Marriage of Figaro (Kentucky Opera), To Kill a Mockingbird (Penobscot Theater Company), as well as over 100 works with NYC's Second Avenue Dance Company. David Meyer (Scenic Design) is thrilled to be designing for Labyrinth. He is currently working in Philadelphia on the next M. Night Shyamalan film, starring Will Smith. Last year, he helped design the sets for the musical numbers that are featured in the NBC television show SMASH and he worked in the Art Department for the film, Men In Black 3. David has been designing theatrical scenery for over 10 years. Design highlights include: Merrily We Roll Along, Tongue Of A Bird, STRINDBERGstrindberg, Hedwig And The Angry Inch, Little Shop Of Horrors, Kiss Me Kate, One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, Kiss of the Spider Woman and Bat Boy, The Musical. David has designed commercials for Kenneth Cole and Vita Coco as well as the short film Love, Lots Of It starring Campbell Scott (official selection for Tribecca Film Festival 2011).
