BY PULITZER PRIZE WINNER

LAWRENCE WRIGHT

IS CONFIRMED FOR BROADWAY

New York Camp David, the latest play by Pulitzer Prize winning author, screenwriter and journalist Lawrence Wright, is headed to Broadway, with an anticipated opening during the 2016/2017 season.   The play offers a gripping day-by-day account of the 1978 Camp David conference, when President Carter persuaded Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin and Egyptian president Anwar Sadat to sign the first peace treaty in the modern Middle East, one which endures to this day.  Prior to its Broadway run, Camp David, directed by Molly Smith, will play The Old Globe in San Diego from May 13 through June 19, 2016.

As was reported earlier today, President Jimmy Carter said in an interview with Mark Kennedy of the Associated Press, “It will be quite an emotional experience for me to see (Camp David) on Broadway.”

This Friday, Camp David will be performed by its original cast, including Hallie Foote, Khaled Nabawy, Ron Rifkin, and Richard Thomas, as part of Carter Center Weekend in Vail, Colorado.  Camp David had its world premiere at Washington D.C.’s Arena Stage in 2014.

Thirteen Days in September, Wright’s book based on the same source material, was named one of the “Top 10 Books of 2014” by The New York Times, is #5 on Amazon.com’s Editors’ List of the Best Books of 2014, made NPR’s list of “2014’s Great Reads,” as well as Entertainment Weekly’s “10 Best Nonfiction Books of 2014” and Publisher’s Weekly “10 Best Books of 2014.”

Camp David will be produced on Broadway by Steve Traxler and Gerald Rafshoon

Further news will be announced shortly.
