IN NEW YORK CITY
IN CELEBRATION OF 100th PERFORMANCE
New York, NY (July 11, 2012) – Peter and the Starcatcher, the five-time Tony® Award-winning play, written by Rick Elice and directed by Roger Rees and Alex Timbers, will celebrate its 100th performance tonight at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre (256 West 47th Street). In honor of the occasion, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg has officially proclaimed July 11, 2012 as “Peter and the Starcatcher Day” in New York City.
The Proclamation states the following:
“New York City had long been a place where children – and adults – are encouraged to have big dreams. Whether you’re from the five boroughs originally, or ventured to the city from a place as far away as Neverland, this is the place where those dreams can come true. In fact, they do come true on Broadway, where one magical show can take you on the adventure of a lifetime any night of the week (and matinees on Wednesday and Saturday). Since opening on April 15, 2012, Peter and the Starcatcher has earned rave reviews from theatergoers and critics alike for its talented cast, dazzling sets, and poignant puns. As actors fly through the air, the audience flies with them to follow the story of a nameless boy who becomes Peter Pan.
We ask you now to imagine the 100th performance of the five-Tony-Award-winning Peter and the Starcatcher. If the first 99 are any indication, tonight’s show will offer another thrilling passage to a time when the world’s most important battle was being fought by a glum orphan boy and his exuberant leader, Molly. Audiences will surely be on the edge of their seats as the villainous and three-bean-couscous-avoiding pirate captain, Black Stache, attempts to foil the Queen’s (God save her!) mission. In the great Broadway tradition – before the crocodile has a chance to chew through all the scenery – good trumps evil. And on this spectacular voyage, the audience will see that to have faith is to have wings!
Even with his extraordinary imagination, J.M. Barrie could not possibly have predicted that talented writers like Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, and then Rick Elice, Roger Rees, and Alex Timbers, would tell the tale of Peter Pan’s origin with such good humor. As the curtain rises on show number 100, and as its audience once again experiences the Neverland they never knew, we applaud the terrifically inventive cast and crew of Peter and the Starcatcher. You’ve made your bed, Pan. And we are so glad you’ve made it here in New York City.
Now therefore, I, Michael R. Bloomberg, Mayor of the City of New York, in recognition of a fantastic show and the joy it has brought to both the young and the young at heart, do hereby proclaim Wednesday, July 11, 2012 in the City of New York as: ‘Peter and the Starcatcher Day.’”
The cast of the acclaimed production includes Adam Chanler-Berat, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Matthew Saldivar, Teddy Bergman, Arnie Burton, Matt D’Amico, Kevin Del Aguila, Carson Elrod, Greg Hildreth, Rick Holmes, Isaiah Johnson and David Rossmer, Betsy Hogg, Orville Mendoza, Jason Ralph and John Sanders.
The entire creative team of Peter and the Starcatcher includes: Wayne Barker (Music), Steven Hoggett (Movement), Marco Paguia (Music Direction), Tony® Award-winner Donyale Werle (Scenic Design), Tony® Award-winner Paloma Young (Costume Design), Tony® Award-winner Jeff Croiter (Lighting Design) and Tony® Award-winner Darron L West (Sound Design).
The performance schedule for Peter and the Starcatcher is as follows: Through September 3rd, 2012: Monday – Thursday at 7:00 PM, Wednesday at 2:00 PM, Friday at 8:00 PM, Saturday at 2:00 PM & 8:00 PM, with no show on Sunday. Beginning September 4: Tuesday – Thursday at 7:00 PM, Friday at 8:00 PM, Wednesday at 2:00 PM, Saturday at 2:00 & 8:00 PM, Sunday at 3:00 PM.
Tickets ($59 – $129) are currently available via Ticketmaster.com or in person at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre box office (256 West 47th Street). A ticket lottery, open to the general public, takes place outside the Brooks Atkinson Theatre beginning two hours before each performance. Patrons can enter their names into the lottery, with an official drawing an hour and a half prior to curtain. Each winner may purchase up to two tickets at a price of $27 each (cash only).
