BREAKS HOUSE RECORD
AT THE NEIL SIMON THEATRE
FOR THE 11TH TIME
WITH $2.6 MILLION WEEKLY GROSS
New York, NY (January 1, 2024) – It was announced today that MJ, the coast to coast smash-hit, Tony award-winning Broadway musical, has made history by shattering the house record at the Neil Simon Theatre for the 11th time. The production broke its previous weekly record of $2,223,069 with a staggering gross of $2,613,841 for the week ending December 30, 2023.
Directed and choreographed by two-time Tony Award winner Christopher Wheeldon, with a book written by two-time Pulitzer Prize® winner Lynn Nottage, MJ is the winner of four 2022 Tony Awards, including Best Leading Actor in a Musical (Myles Frost) and Best Choreography (Wheeldon). The production currently stars Elijah Rhea Johnson as ‘MJ.’
Since beginning performances in December 2021, the production has played to over 1 million patrons. The North American Tour, which opened in Chicago on August 1st, is currently playing in Los Angeles, CA starring Roman Banks, and the West End premiere is set for March 2024 at London’s Prince Edward Theatre starring Tony Award winner Myles Frost. The Tony Award winning production will open in Hamburg, Germany in fall 2024 and in Sydney, Australia in 2025.
