Nick Kenkel

 

Nick Kenkel has been in the theater all his life.  As a performer, Nick has been in various hit shows on Broadway, including The Wedding Singer, Legally Blonde and Catch Me If You Can. He has choreographed for musicals, TV shows, and recording artists across the entertainment world. This season, he is getting down in Chicago as co-choreographer for the Broadway-bound hit musical, Gotta Dance. Nick Kenkel is a triple-threat imbued with enthusiasm and an innate creativity. We are thrilled to have him On the Couch! 

 

What do you consider to be your best asset?

The ability to truly enjoy the small things in life.

 

What was your proudest moment?

 When I booked my first Broadway show as a performer.  I was hired as the 1st replacement for the featured groom/male dance track in The Wedding Singer.  I used to be a CPA so when I took the leap to pursue my dream…this was one of the biggest moments to feel like I had “succeeded.”  Of course taking the leap was succeeding in itself.

 

What is your favorite drink?

 I’m not going to lie, I love a Bloody Mary.

 

What is your favorite food?

 Restaurant chips and salsa aka “heaven”

 

What is your favorite condiment?

 A1 Steaksauce

 

What is your current obsession?

 FARGO on FX!!!

 

If you could give up one of your vices, what would it be?

 Carbohydrates

 

What is the one professional accomplishment you long for most?

 Ironically I want to act in a play.  I came close a couple times.

 

What is the one thing you waste too much money on?

 Coffee.

 

What is the one activity you waste too much time doing?

 Belaboring the past.

 

What do you consider to be the single greatest threat to your health?

 Fear.

 

What is the single best trait you inherited or learned from your parents? 

 To work hard in life and to take responsibility.

 

What is the single worst trait you inherited or learned from your parents?

 To worry about the future.

 

What in the world most thrills you?

 Music takes me to my own personal heaven/utopia.

 

What current trend in popular culture most irritates you?

Fake (un-real) Reality Shows.

 

What was the single most embarrassing moment you've ever experienced on the job?

 Falling on my ass during a workshop presentation for a director doing the Charleston too full out.

 

What is your favorite place in the world?

 The woods!  I grew up with horses in a farming community and used to go trail riding all the time. 

 

What is the most important trait you seek in a romantic partner?

 Ability to make me feel secure.

 

Do you prefer the company of dogs or cats?

 I adopted a mini-poodle and I now want to own my own poodle kennel I love them so much.

 

What would have to happen to make today the best day of your life?

Obtain a job that allows me to feel financially secure for the long haul.  That and obtaining world peace…but you know how that goes.

 

What is your personal motto?

Its okay to fail as long as you are trying.
