AWARDS TO BE ANNOUNCED ON THURSDAY, JUNE 1New York, NY (May 9, 2023) – Broadway.com announced the nominations in 24 competitive categories for the 23rd annual Broadway.com Audience Choice Awards. The nominees were selected by fans from across the globe who voted for all eligible candidates in the most democratic theater award of the year. The full list of nominations is below.
This year, Into The Woods was the most nominated musical with 17 nominations while Life of Pi was the most nominated play with 5 nominations. Annaleigh Ashford led all performers with 4 nominations for her performance in Sweeney Todd, followed by Hiran Abeysekara with 3 nominations for his performance in Life of Pi.The voting period begins today and will conclude on Sunday, May 21 at 11:59pm ET. Winners in each category will be announced on June 1 and the Awards will be presented at a private reception on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at 48 Lounge (1221 Avenue of the Americas). In recent years, the ceremony has featured Award Winners Hugh Jackman, Daniel Craig, Sarah Jessica Parker, Uma Thurman, Andrew Garfield, Tina Fey, Ben Platt, Bradley Cooper, Lin-Manuel Miranda and more.
The Broadway.com Audience Choice Award is the only major theatrical prize awarded solely by votes cast online by audience members. Awards are presented in traditional categories as well as several unique to the Broadway.com Audience Choice Awards, including “Favorite Diva Performance,” “Favorite New Song,” “Favorite Breakthrough Performance,” “Favorite Funny Performance” and “Favorite Onstage Pair.” In addition, an award is presented for national tours to encourage the participation of Broadway fans not only in New York but across the country. All awards are decided solely by the voting of theater fans on Broadway.com. Fans will be able to vote to select this year’s winners at Broadway.com. Polls for voting are now open.
