New York, NY – (January 29, 2015) – By popular demand, The York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director; Andrew Levine, Executive Director), and producing partners Amy Engelhardt and Heather Shields, have announced the return of the acclaimed new game show for musical theater lovers, Tune in Time, hosted by Emily McNamara, featuring guest music director Tracy Stark and Sheila Head as the annoyingly insistent timekeeper.

Performances move to Monday evenings beginning Monday, February 2, 2015 at The York Theatre Company at Saint Peters (Citicorp Building, entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue).  Additional dates announced include March 9, April 5, May 4, with more to come.  All performances will begin at 7:30 p.m.

In this “Musical Theater Olympics,” three teams of composers and lyricists who have never worked together are forced to collaborate – and to beat the clock!  Their task?  They must write a song from a new Broadway musical, the title of which is picked from a hatful of audience suggestions – in the style determined by a spin of the dreaded Genre Wheel – all within 20 minutes.  Tune in Time is an evening of edge-of-your-seat suspense, brain-frying bravery, and Broadway trivia.  Each edition of Tune in Time features a different roster of musical theater composers and lyricists as well as a panel of celebrity judges.

Songwriters confirmed for February 2nd include Rebekah M. Allen (We Are the Tigers),  Christie Baugher (Leni Riefenstahl Is Going To Tell You The Truth), Kellen Blair (Murder for Two), Brett Boles (Benjamin Button),  David Christensen  (The Founding Fathers Go Camping), and Michael Shapiro (The Founding Fathers Go Camping).  The panel of illustrious celebrity judges include Jeff Blumenkrantz (Murder for Two), Robert Creighton (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang) and Sarah Stiles (Hand to God).

General Admission tickets for Tune in Time are priced at $20 and can be purchased online at www.yorktheatre.com, or by visiting the York Theatre Company Box Office (Citicorp Building, entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue), or by calling the Box Office at (212) 935-5820 during regular business hours (Monday through Friday, 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.).

Special pre-show “Under 35” Event set for Monday, February 2.  Join The York Theatre Company and other theatre-loving, young adults for unique pre-theatre cocktails prepared by Professional Mixologists Peter Roccoforte and Kristen French (ask them about the underground bar scene at 45-19; it’s more than just a number…) beginning at 6:00 p.m.   Then, at 7:30 p.m. the fun begins with new phenomenon Tune in Time.  To purchase “Under 35” discounted tickets, contact The York Theatre Box Office.

Previous songwriting winners have included David Sisco and Kate Anderson who were paired together and awarded for their stunning duet from the mock operetta, The Moist Aardvark;  Dan McKenzie and Ben Wexler (Dramatist Guild Fellow) who were paired together to write the title character's self-explanatory song from the faux Disney musical, The Stick Snake; Erik Jareth Ransom (two-time champ) and Clay Zambo for their song from the faux epic musical, The Hairy Ebola;  and Avi Amon and Robbie Torres for their original song written for the faux Disney musical, The Lovely Piano.

“A triumph! A rollicking celebration of words and music that skips briskly along the path that wends from the hilarious to the sublime.” – Big Yellow Taxi

“Head down to Tune in Time. It is a joyous, hilarious romp that has the added benefit of being an exceptional night of creative genius.”  – Stage Buddy

The York Theatre Company is the only theater in New York City—and one of very few in the world—dedicated to developing and fully producing new musicals and preserving neglected, notable shows from the past. For over four decades, York’s intimate, imaginative style of producing both original and neglected classic musicals has resulted in critical acclaim and recognition from artists and audiences alike. Under the guidance of Producing Artistic Director James  Morgan since 1997, the York has focused exclusively on new musicals in its Mainstage Series—most of them world, American, or New York premieres—by some of the field’s most esteemed creators, and has also helped launch the careers of many talented new writers. Over 35 cast recordings from The York Theatre Company productions are now available on CD, and commercial transfers of such York premieres as The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!)SouvenirJolson & Company, and its acclaimed revivals of Closer Than Ever (2013 Off-Broadway Alliance Award for Best Revival), Sweeney Todd and Pacific Overtures have all showcased the importance of the York and its programs.
