ANNOUNCES NEW LEADS FOR
“FOOL FOR LOVE”

SAM ROCKWELL AND NINA ARIANDA
JOIN THE CAST OF SAM SHEPARD CLASSIC
ON NIKOS STAGE

Williamstown, MA (June 19, 2014) – Williamstown Theatre Festival has announced that Tony Award-winner Nina Arianda and stage and screen star Sam Rockwell will join the cast of Fool for Love, playing the Nikos Stage from July 24–August 2, 2014.  They replace previously announced Chris Pine and Lauren Ambrose, who depart the production due to scheduling conflicts.

“While we were greatly looking forward to welcoming Chris Pine back to Williamstown, Sam Rockwell and I have long included Fool for Love at the top of our wish list for a production on the Nikos Stage, and we are thrilled that Sam is available to return to Williamstown,” Jenny Gersten, Artistic Director Emeritus, said. “He has a long history of recreating extraordinary roles by great American writers here. We are further blessed by the red-hot Nina Arianda, a formidable actor and great foil as May to Sam's Eddie.”

Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart.  Beaten down by ill-fated love and a ruthless struggle for identity, can they ultimately live with, or without, each other?   Led by director Daniel Aukin, the riveting cast of Fool for Love brings a raw sexy energy to Sam Shepard’s landmark myth of the new Wild West.

The cast of Fool for Love is Christopher Abbott, Nina Arianda, Sam Rockwell and Gordon Joseph Weiss.

Earnest and gullible young lyricist Fred Stevens boards a train in Schenectady bound for the Big Apple, determined to make a name for himself in the thriving Tin Pan Alley scene. However, the life he’s imagined is rife with seductive distractions—namely dames—that threaten to derail his dream of penning the next big ditty. Both bitterly funny and deliciously literate, legendary humorists Ring Lardner and George S. Kaufman celebrate and skewer the perishable pop of yesteryear.  Director Jessica Stone, whose WTF productions of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and Last of the Red Hot Lovers left audiences convulsed with laughter, brings her special brand of glee back to the Festival stage.

Sardonic and morally complex, The Visit asks: What can your heart afford? Featuring Festival favorite Roger Rees and helmed by Tony Award-winning director John Doyle, this incendiary musical is one of the last collaborations between the incomparable John Kander and Fred Ebb, with a book by Tony Award winner Terrence McNally and choreography by the legendary Graciela Daniele.
