New York, NY – Lead producer Michael Cohl has announced that SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark will make its television debut this Friday, September 10, on ABC’s “Good Morning America.” The appearance will feature interviews with the show’s composers and lyricists, Bono and The Edge, live via satellite from their European tour, and Tony® Award-winning director Julie Taymor, as well as the premiere of a song from the highly anticipated show, performed by its star, Reeve Carney (who portrays Peter Parker/Spider-Man) and his band Carney, live from The Hudson Theatre in Times Square.
“When I first heard about SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark, I imagined it would be something extraordinary, and one of the all-time great collaborations: Bono, The Edge and Julie Taymor. . . Wow!” said Michael Cohl. “Now that we are deep into production, it is even more extraordinary than I ever imagined.”
“It’s fun writing songs for the character Peter Parker,” said The Edge. “I wanted to be a scientist when I left school, but I got distracted.”
About her star, Julie Taymor stated, “When I first saw Reeve, he was performing with his terrific band Carney. The music of Bono and Edge requires an extraordinary talent. Not only is Reeve a great rock and roll singer, but his acting is equally fresh and authentic.”
The public can take part in this debut performance by being part of the live audience (and hear additional music from SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark). Audience members should arrive beginning at 6:30 AM to the Hudson Theatre, located in the Millennium Broadway hotel at 145 West 44th Street between Broadway and 6th Avenue. SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark represents the consummate collaboration of cultures by joining the theatrical and cinematic vision of Julie Taymor with the thrilling musicality of Bono and The Edge, and the iconic Spider-Man brand. This project has allowed these artists to create a work specifically designed for a theater environment, that can’t be produced as a stadium show. Featuring music and lyrics by 22-time Grammy® Award-winners Bono and The Edge, direction by Tony® Award-winner Julie Taymor (The Tempest, Across The Universe, The Lion King), a book co-written by Taymor and Glen Berger (Underneath The Lintel) and one of the most iconic title characters of all time, SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark finds astonishingly fresh ways to tell a story inspired by over forty years of Marvel comic books. The show follows the story of teenager Peter Parker, whose unremarkable life is turned upside-down, literally, when he's bitten by a genetically altered spider and wakes up the next morning clinging to his bedroom ceiling. This bullied science-geek suddenly endowed with incredible powers soon learns, however, that with great power comes great responsibility as villains put both his physical strength and strength of character to the test.
