New York, NY (December 11, 2015) – Target Margin Theater is proud to announce their two-season exploration of the great father of American theater, Eugene O’Neill. Who was O’Neill? Genius, blowhard, giant of the imagination, ham-fisted avatar of pseudo-psychology, geographer of the human spirit, was he drunk on art or just drunk? He rewrote Greek tragedy, refurbished American melodrama, and reinvented depth psychology for the stage, and TMT brings it all to you.
In the 2015/ 2016 season, TMT launches their Eugene O’Neill program with a special treatment of O’Neill’s epic Mourning Becomes Electra. Drunken With What, presented at the Abrons Arts Center’s historic Playhouse in February 2016, is the first in a series of studies of key scenes in the Mourning Becomes Electra trilogy and will offer audiences a deep reflection on the seminal work. Previews will begin on February 7th, 2016 with an opening night set for February 15th, 2016. Tickets will be $30.
Up next, the 2016 TMT Lab at HERE Arts Center will feature a radical new approach to O’Neill’s The Iceman Cometh. Four diverse theater artists will each tackle a separate act of O’Neill’s classic and present them in repertory, allowing audiences to experience each act as its own distinct work or to see them all as a cohesive whole in a marathon performance. Lead Artists currently scheduled to participate include Julia Sirna-Frest (actor / director), Katie Rose McLaughlin (choreographer), Yuris Skujins (actor /director), and Jeanette Yew (lighting / projection designer, director, puppeteer). The Iceman Cometh will start performances on June 2nd. Tickets for each act will be $18; Tickets for marathon performances of all four acts will be $55.

Target Margin Theater seeks continuously to expand our conception of what can take place in a theater. TMT celebrates difference and is drawn to experiences that are other, alien, and new: “all things counter, original, spare, strange.” For 24 years Target Margin has been at the forefront of New York’s alternative theater scene and has been praised for their bold and wild interpretations of classic dramas and lesser-known works. TMT has presented ambitious re-thinkings of plays by Shakespeare, Chekov, Brecht, Gertrude Stein, and Beaumarchais, among others. TMT has also created original works and new music / opera over the years and has served over 1,000 artists (mostly emerging) through its annual LAB. The company’s production of Mamba’s Daughters received an OBIE Award, and their epic 2004-06 production of Goethe’s Faust received extensive critical acclaim. Recent productions include The (*) Inn at Abrons Arts Center, Uncle Vanya and The Tempest at HERE, Uriel Acosta: I Want That Man! at The Chocolate Factory, , Composition…Master-Pieces…Identity, a new solo performance piece from OBIE Award-winner David Greenspan at The Connelly Theater, and, most recently, Reread Another at The Brick, called “something kind of wonderful” by Ben Brantley in The New York Times.
TMT’s programming is made possible through major support from The Andrew W. Mellon New York Theater Program, the Axe-Houghton Foundation, The Barbara Bell Cumming Foundation, Charina Foundation, The Clinton Walker Family Foundation, The Fan Fox & Leslie R.
