New York, NY (August 22, 2023) – The Flea is pulling out all the stops for its indoor/outdoor theater, The Pete, for WERK! The Patio Sessions, a high energy, equal parts elegant and naughty festival of performances by Glam Award winning DJ2FACE, comedy cabaret duo The Incredible Drunkertons, Afro-Electro-Disco-Space-Punks The Illustrious Blacks, all-women salsa band Lulada Club, and one of Manhattan’s fiercest drag divas, Pixie Aventura. These works will occur at The Flea (20 Thomas Street) from September 21 – October 1, 2023. Tickets start at $20.

The Flea’s Artistic Director, Niegel Smith says, “Summer’s not over at The Flea! We’re gonna WERK! it, honey, with some of the most thrilling and ambitious acts gracing New York’s stages. Come in your lewks, grab a drink at the bar and join in the joy.”

Join NYC’s legendary drag queen Pixie Aventura and DJ2FACE for the opening night launch of WERK! The Patio Sessions. “El Camerino with Pixie Aventura” showtime 7:30, dance party + drinks to follow. Space extremely limited! 

PIXIE AVENTURA has been living in New York City since 2009. Originally from Miami, Pixie has always focused on a life of entertainment. Pixie has become known as the Latin dancing- lip sync slaying- Diva of Manhattan. They have several weekly shows, ranging from solo acts, duo shows, and large ensemble productions. Recently, Pixie performed with Madonna for Pride 2022, was the opening act for WigStock 2.0, worked with John Leguizamo as the legendary character, Chi Chi Rodriguez, Featured in the Pepsi “It’s a New York Thing” campaign and has traveled internationally for several Drag performances. DJ 2FACE is one of the most in-demand DJs in gay NYC nightlife. He is a Florida Native who moved to NYC 11 years ago. DJ2FACE is a 2-time Glam Award winner for Best DJ who works almost every night of the week. Dubbed “The Drag DJ,” he is known for his bigger than life personality and is every drag queen’s dream to work with. He currently works at the hottest spots in NYC which include Playhouse Bar, Rise Bar, Pieces Bar, and Hardware Bar and also on Fire Island in The Pines every Monday in the Summer. Pre-pandemic, he spent a lot of his time outside of NYC touring the world with RuPaul’s Drag Race S8 Winner Bob The Drag Queen and AS4 Winner Monét X Change. His musical style is best described as a turned-up pop mix just on the right side of wrong. He is a genius of mashups and remixes that you would never think of. Although their show was a mega-hit, they were unexpectedly canceled after five seasons and were legally barred from recording or performing publicly for 20 years. Now that the non-compete clause has expired and their protracted legal battle with the [redacted] network is behind them, they are ready to take their place at the top, once again! 

Sizzle and Funk draw on a variety of influences and musical genres, from pop, to r&b, to country, to rock and beyond. Audiences at the Flea can expect the signature The Incredible Drunkertons razzle dazzle in an intimate environment, granting unprecedented access to two of Las Vegas’ most treasured stars.

Once upon a time in a galaxy not far away, there lived two kings. Each was the ruler of his own deliciously glorious planet. The first king, Manchildblack, was well known throughout the cosmos for his ethereal vocals, celestial sonics and earthy musical messages. The other king, Monstah Black, was a star in the solar system for his gravity defying performances, gender bending fashions and spacey disposition. One magical night, an inexplicable ultra-magnetic pull forced the two planets to collide. A technicolored explosion occurred, turning night into day, with a feast of aural and visual delights. It was then that the universe was changed forever. Manchildblack and Monstah Black united and became The Illustrious Blacks!

Through meticulous curation, vocalist and director Andrea Chavarro has assembled a cohort of accomplished and brilliant New York-based musicians, each with unique merits. Infused with an irresistible blend of vibrancy and skill, these remarkable women command the stage, welcoming salserxs of all levels and ages. Gender-neutral salsa lesson for all included at the performances!

Drawing inspiration from her Cali, Colombia heritage—the global epicenter of salsa—Andrea embarked on a mission to address the void of female ensembles within the live music scene in New York City. This ambition led to the creation of Lulada Club in 2022. Renowned for their masterful interpretations of vintage tropical rhythms encompassing salsa, bolero, and cha-cha-cha, the powerhouse band pays homage to the icons while offering a fresh perspective through their original compositions.
