FOR THE 2017 SUMMER SEASON
LATE-NIGHT CABARET SERIES RETURNS AND
COMMUNITY WORKS PROJECT ANNOUNCED
THE 2017 BORIS SAGAL AND BILL FOELLER FELLOWSHIP PROJECTS ANNOUNCED
New York, NY (April xx, 2017) – Williamstown Theatre Festival (Mandy Greenfield, Artistic Director) has announced additional details in special programming and events for the 2017 summer season.
In addition to the Main Stage and Nikos Stage productions, this season’s slate of events will also include the return of the legendary Late-Night Cabaret and Late-Night @ The Log series and the addition of a free and family-friendly Community Works Project.
It was also announced that the 2017 Boris Sagal Fellowship/Drama League Residency has been awarded to Jenna Worsham, who will direct a new play by Abby Rosebrock with performances on August 14 and 15 at 7pm and 11pm.
The 2017 Bill Foeller Fellow is Estefania Fadul who will be assisting Rebecca Taichman on The Clean House and will direct two productions of her own in the Directing Studio. Fadul is an LCT Directing Lab Fellow, a Drama League Fellow and a New Georges Affiliated Artist.
The stars come out at night at WTF’s legendary Late-Night Cabaret series. Exhilarating evenings of ensemble and solo performances showcase the virtuosic talents of the Festival artists, from the brightest stars of stage and screen to up-and-coming members of WTF’s Non-Equity and Apprentice companies. The beloved Festival highlight runs from July 13-15, July 27-29, and August 10-12.
After last season’s sold-out events featuring Jill Kargman, Tom Fontana and
Susie Essman in Williamstown’s best new venue, this summer we launch a new series: Late-Night @ The Log!. This summer we will welcome back those edgy “you-had-to-be-there” one-night only performances from Festival guest artists. Each night features someone new in an intimate, casual atmosphere, with access to beverages and snacks. The WTF late-night series happens July 7-8, 21-22, and August 4-5 at 10:30pm at The Log on Spring Street.
Community Works is WTF’s initiative that brings together local residents and professional theatre artists to make plays for and about the Berkshires. In the fall, winter, and spring, WTF conducts acting and playwriting workshops in Western Massachusetts. This summer, more than eighty Berkshire area residents will be featured onstage alongside professional actors in the free, family-friendly world premiere play, Once Upon A Time in the Berkshires, by Lucy Thurber, directed by Laura Savia from August 13-16 on the Main Stage.

Empty-nested and alone in her Midwestern home, Sharon (Merkerson) takes on a roommate, Robyn (Kaczmarek), who has just arrived from New York City. Before she has even unpacked, Robyn challenges everything about Sharon’s way of life. Book clubs, 80s pop music, and the occasional shared toke complicate their unlikely but enduring relationship, even as they venture into dangerous territory. Mike Donahue directs Jen Silverman’s new play which celebrates unexpected re-invention later in life.

Lane (Atkinson), an accomplished physician, discovers that her sister Virginia (Hecht) — not her Brazilian housekeeper Matilde (Cote de Pablo) — has been cleaning her home every day. Though never close, suddenly the sisters find themselves enmeshed in each other’s lives and in Matilde’s great passion for Portuguese jokes. Rebecca Taichman directs this expressive and lyrical comedy about learning to live with life’s mess.

Emmy Award-winner and Tony Award-nominee Lonny Price directs an intimate new musical by composer/lyricist Geoff Morrow and book writer Timothy Prager that delivers us to the intersection of loyalty, love, and ambition. Back in 1950, film producer Joseph Lindy was on top of the world, making hit after hit with the love of his life and leading lady, Billie Hathaway. Nearly four decades later, retired and forgotten, he must approve for release a version of his abandoned, cinematic masterpiece, an autobiographical film now altered irrevocably by a young producer. Haunted by the choices he made years ago, Joseph’s story hangs in the balance as he reconstructs the film, his memory and, ultimately, his legacy.

Young, Latino, gay and unapologetically ambitious, Gabriel (Hiram Delgado), arrives in New York seeking work, friendship, love, and mentorship. But, before he can move forward, he must honestly determine if he is running toward success or away from what he left behind. Developed at WTF under the auspices of the Bill Foeller Fellowship Program in 2016, The Model American asks: what is the price we are willing to pay for a new life?

Mourning the loss of her elder son Myles (LeRoy McClain), Bethea (Myra Lucretia Taylor) tries to help her younger son Gideon (Christopher Livingston) through his grief. But as revelations surrounding Myles’ incarceration and death emerge, both mother and son must decide whether to fight or let go. With wit and empathy, this play reminds us of the courage and resilience it takes to chart a better way forward for the ones we love. Saheem Ali directs this world premiere play by 2016 WTF Playwright-in-Residence Harrison David Rivers.

Lileana Blain-Cruz directs Anna Ziegler’s deeply felt and relevant world premiere play about intimacy and responsibility, power and provocation, privilege and protocol.
